The FLHSMV is in charge of many boating legalities in Florida: boating registration, requirements to operate a vessel, and more. Since we have the benefit of so many beaches and docks, owning a boat in Florida is par for the course for most people. However, figuring out what you need to drive that boat legally in the State can be confusing. June is Boat Safety Month, and we’re here to help you make sure you have what you need before the boating starts!

You won’t have to leave the comfort of your home or office.
What Kind of Paperwork Do I Need to Register My Boat in Palm Beach?
If you send us a copy or photo of your title and previous registration (if applicable), we can renew or get you a new registration for your boat. If you’re required to have one, we also may need your Boater Education Card.
What’s a Boater Education Card?
A Boater Education Card is essentially a driver’s license for your boat. Unless your boat has less than 10 horsepower, you will need it if you meet the criteria for needing boat education.
Age Makes a Difference
If you were born after Jan 1st, 1988, you need to complete a course to drive your boat. The National State Boating Law Administration provides the education course that you need to pass to drive legally in the State.
Out of State Visitors Are Required to Have Education
If you are not licensed in Florida, you need to meet the requirements for safe boating as well. As a visitor, you can get a temporary certificate via myfwc.com, and that certificate is valid for 90 days. You can also pass an education course in your state before visiting, or if you already have one, it is applicable in the State.
